Type of Program

Our dynamic program is based at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), a major Harvard-affiliated teaching hospital. BWH is a Level I Trauma and Burn Center and a member of the four year ACGME accredited Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency Program. The Department of Emergency Medicine cares for >60,000 ED patients per year, and the 55 bed ED includes two separate 10 bed ED Observation Units. BWH is an equal opportunity employer.

Ultrasound Program Status

We have created a robust Division of Emergency Ultrasound within the Department of Emergency Medicine. Our departmental leadership has a demonstrated strong and successful commitment to emergency ultrasound with recent significant investments in both new technology and faculty.

Ultrasound Fellowship Education

Emergency ultrasound fellows have the opportunity to train under several ultrasound fellowship trained faculty members and our ultrasound technician and educator. The Emergency Department has very collaborative and supportive relationships with the Division of Emergency Radiology and the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine. The Emergency Department is also home to STRATUS, a leading comprehensive medical simulation training center with ultrasound simulation capabilities. The Division of International Health and Humanitarian Programs, which operates international research and strategic initiatives, offers two international EM fellowships, and is involved in international applications of diagnostic ultrasound.
