Ultrasound Fellowship Education

The UTSW Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Fellowship is a 1 year fellowship for EM physicians that are BC/BE and have completed an EM residency. The fellowship will train future leaders in EM Ultrasound. It will focus on enchancing the fellow's ultrasound knowledge and skills, as well as emphasize program development and management. Fellows will gain the necessary experience and acquire the skills essential to initiating and maintaining a successful EUS program.

The fellow will work with the EUS Fellowship and the EUS Section Director jointly in all aspects of the EUS program, including faculty development, resident education, curriculum development, QA, image archiving, machine maintenance and purchasing, as well as billing and documentation.

Fellows will participate in weekly US didactics including lectures, QA, and journal club. In addition the fellow is expected to complete 5 scanning shifts/month. Fellows will perform and interpret a minimum of 1200 ultrasound examinations and be RDMS-prepared by fellowship completion, in addition to adhering to ACEP's recommendations for EUS fellowships.

We also work with anesthesia to obtain US guided regional anesthesia experience in the PACU and cardiology to work on advanced ED echo techniques.
