Average Number of US
Residents acquire 200-300 scans at end of residency, on average
Is there a dedicated US month?
Our first year residents spend 4 weeks on a combined ultrasound and anesthesia rotation. They are expected to acquire 100 technically adequate scans. Interns on rotation also prepare and present and "Ultrasound Case of the Month", which critically appraises recent or landmark ultrasound literature.
Is there an US elective?
An ultrasound elective block is available, as well as ultrasound elective "shifts" throughout the year
Number of Residents who went on to become US fellows:
Number of hours Hands-on (i.e. scan shifts)
Each resident on rotation scans 1:1 with ultrasound faculty and twice with US fellows
Number of hours Image Review
2 hour image review sessions every week for residents/students.
Number of hours didactics
Didactics are through the voice over lecture series provided by the Academy of Emergency Ultrasound and Didactic Modules from Sonosim Ultrasound Simulator.
Our residency program was started in 2007 and has grown exponentially, now with 13 residents per year. As such, the ultrasound curriculum has been thoughtfully developed to maximize ultrasound learning and approach to ultrasound proficiency.
The ultrasound teaching at resident conference is in an innovative small group format to maximize learning and hands-on opportunity.
