Resident Education Experience

Average Number of US

1000 scans required for graduation

Is there a dedicated US month?

Our residents have a longitudinal ultrasound curriculum with ultrasound education every year. During their intern year, the residents have 4 weeks (2 two week blocks) of anesthesia and ultrasound. Interns will spend their mornings practicing intubations in the OR and will spend their afternoons ultrasounding in the ED. They will have dedicated scanning time with ultrasound-fellowship trained faculty twice a week. As a PGY2, residents have a month long toxicology rotation where they will be expected to be present for scanning with the interns twice a week during attending ultrasound rounds. Then in their final year, residents have a 4 week teaching resident month where they will spend their time in the ED assisting with procedures and act as primary teacher for the interns. During this time the residents will scan with the interns.

Is there an US elective?

There is a 1-2 week ultrasound elective during the PGY2 year.

Number of hours Hands-on (i.e. scan shifts)
