In addition to clinical duties, the fellows are expected to participate in resident education through one scanning shift per week [ultrasound teaching day] from 8am - 5pm. This includes two sessions of supervised ultrasound scanning shifts with rotating learners and one lecture on a basic ultrasound application topic. Fellows will be expected to run at least 5 ultrasound scanning shifts per month and attend all other scheduled sessions unless working clinically or performing other academic responsibilities.

Fellows will be required to initiate and complete one research project to a minimum of a poster presentation but ideally to manuscript state with the fellow as the first author. They are to contribute to at least one additional ongoing research project where they will be a contributing author.

Fellows will participate in weekly journal club with rotating learners and once a month are required to present their own journal club article during the fellows academic half day conference.

Simulation Lab for TEE
Department of Anesthesia for TEE and regional anesthesia

Image review is performed weekly with the group of rotating learners on their ultrasound rotation. Images are reviewed for proper technique, image acquisition, completeness of images, accurate interpretation, and scored on a 1 to 5 scale as per ACEP guidelines. We use the Butterfly Enterprise workflow software.
