County Hospital-based Emergency Medicine Residency.
Well established program with excellent reputation for training academic faculty.
High volume, high acuity ED (110,000 visits/year).

Ultrasound Program Status

We perform a high volume of TEE exams in our ED (>500 in the last 3 years).
We have experience placing ultrasound guided regional anesthesia catheters.
Two of our ultrasound faculty run ultrasound fellowships overseas in Peru, Haiti, Costa Rica, Argentina, Ecuador and Mexico. Our fellows have the opportunity to get involved and travel in our ongoing educational programs.
Our Emergency Ultrasound Program is long-standing and very well supported (we got our 1st machine in 1985!!)
Ultrasound is fully integrated into our clinical practice and all of our faculty use it for clinical decision-making.
All of our faculty bill for their ultrasound services.
We have 30 ultrasound machines (8 mounted units as well as a variety high-end cart-based systems), all with full wireless connectivity.
We have a full-time RDMS ultrasound technologist to assist the physicians with resident, medical student and fellow education.

Number of Ultrasound Faculty

All of our faculty (37) are proficient at emergency ultrasound and credentialed to perform a full range of POCUS exams - including TEE and transvaginal.
Ultrasound is part of their daily practice, and we all bill for our ultrasound exams.

Ultrasound Fellowship Education

Ultrasound has been used in the Emergency Department at Hennepin County Medical Center since 1985!!
Several of our faculty have been using point-of-care ultrasound for nearly 30 years.
