UCLA-Affiliated Clinical Ultrasound Fellowship (CUS)

Fellowship Program

Length of Fellowship

1 and 2 years.

We offer two fellowship slots each year, where one is of two year duration and one is of one year duration.

Salary

- Competitive with UCLA employee benefits (medical, dental, disability) and housing stipend*.
- Sponsorship for concurrent Masters degree at UCLA (MPH, MPP, MS) and/or would like to combine with another research, global health, or medical education fellowship.

Additional Funds

- Time is available for limited moonlighting opportunities.
- Limited funded teaching opportunities.
- CME funds and other stipends through CIR.

Number of Clinical Hours

Average 8-9 clinical shifts monthly (shifts are 7-9 hours in duration)

Other Duties

1.) Educational - Resident and medical student elective rotations
2.) Research - Develop a research project of your choosing to completion
3.) Administrative - ED QI/QA and imaging review

Number of Sites

2-year track Fellows work at these four sites over two years:
Year 1:
- Harbor-UCLA Medical Center - Torrance, CA
- Ronald Reagan-UCLA Medical Center - Westwood, CA
Year 2:
- Olive View-UCLA Medical Center - Sylmar, CA
- Greater Los Angeles VA System - West Los Angeles, CA

1-year track Fellows work at two sites:
- Harbor-UCLA Medical Center - Torrance, CA
- One from the three possible sites: Ronald Reagan Medical Center, Olive View-UCLA, or UCLA-Santa Monica.

Number of Positions Per Year

1 position for the 2-year track
1 position for the 1-year track

- Advanced degrees available via UCLA - ex: Medical Education Fellowship (MEF) certificate program, MPH, Masters in Clinical Research, Graduate Research certificate through UCLA CTSI, etc.
- Hospital-wide POCUS Committee involvement

Educational Experience

In addition to educational experience listed under "Ultrasound Fellowship Education", our program provides exceptional junior faculty opportunity at two premier emergency medicine residency programs. Our clinical environment is unparalleled as our sites are designated level I & II trauma centers, stroke center, STEMI center, EDAP, and EMS base station. Our fellows work clinically to care for marginalized populations of Los Angeles county, our veterans, and subspecialty patients referred to quaternary care center.

Our core faculty are involved nationally. We hold or held posts as SAEM Academy of Ultrasound President, SAEM Academy of ultrasound research officer, ACEP Ultrasound section committee chairs, SCUF board members, AEMUS board exam writer, EUFAC board member, SonoGames founder/judges, SonoSlam founder/judges, and decision editors for JUM, AEM, JACEP Open. We are committed to mentor our fellows to became leaders in our field.
