The fellow is allowed to pick up some extra hours (pay is very competitive) but education comes first.

The EUS fellow will give lectures during resident conferences and rotations, during hands-on classes for the department, and for the attending EUS credentialing initiative.

The fellow is expected to teach at least 2 lectures a quarter to residents during their educational didactic sessions. The fellow will scan at the bedside 2-3 times a week and has regular scanning sessions with the EUS Director and our other faculty as per our scanning schedule. Active participation in the QA process is expected and the fellow will learn all aspects of ultrasound program administration.

The EUS fellow will be involved in ongoing research projects pertaining to EUS and present at 1 departmental journal club during the year.

The EUS fellowship is based at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA.
We have a system of affiliates in the Boston area with plenty of teaching opportunities.

National and international teaching opportunities exist, the fellow is encouraged to spend at least a 1-2 week period outside the United States for additional learning.

International Applicants for Emergency Ultrasound Training are considered if self-funded

The education of the emergency ultrasound fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center has been created based on the new ACEP Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship Guidelines and Training Curriculum. We focus on teaching and scanning all aspects of emergency ultrasound, but we also encourage and practice high-end and off-the beaten path ultrasound applications, The fellow will gain expertise in all ACEP EUS indications and many more advanced ultrasound techniques.

We collaborate with our colleagues from the research and resuscitation fellowship at BI and fellows attend their weekly research lectures, covering a wide range of how to design a research study and research methodology

Advanced ultrasound skill training depending on the special interest of the fellow and collaboration with other departments is strongly encouraged

i.e. Participation in advanced cardiac and/or TEE training with our colleagues at Anesthesia/Critical Care is encouraged

Our image review is on Mondays and is part of the ultrasound education day. The fellow will actively participate in QA on a weekly basis and interesting cases should be prepared as a 'case of the week'.
