Additional Opportunities

There are international opportunities abound as our division has close ties with the Center for Global Health at MGH and BWH and with WINFOCUS. The fellow is encouraged but not required to spend time in an underdeveloped part of the world, performing and teaching ultrasound.

Teaching opportunities at both MGH and BWH are numerous. We participate in at least 3 outside courses yearly and lead courses for local surgery, internal medicine, ICU and pediatric residents in point of care ultrasound. We also teach an Emergency Ultrasound elective for senior Harvard Medical School students, lead an 2 year rotating ultrasound curriculum for Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency (HAEMR), and have access to 2 simulation labs (1 at each MGH and BWH).

Educational Experience

The breadth and diversity of our patient population, combined with the depth of expertise of our teaching faculty, provides the exceptional quality clinical ultrasound training in emergency medicine. We have 10 full-time faculty with US fellowship training who have expertise spanning the entire gamut of POCUS. US Fellows receive excellent training in performing US exams and gain an outstanding foundation in US integration principles.

Image Review

We have a comprehensive plan for QA process, compatible with SCUF recommendations. We perform regular QA of both MGH and BWH departments. Special attention is given to fellow performed scans to promote continual growth.
