Resident Education Experience
Is there a dedicated US month?
Yes, 2-week intern rotation. Additionally interns are required to scan during their Anesthesia rotation.
Is there an US elective?
Yes. 2-week and 4-week elective for PGY-II and PGY-III residents.

Number of hours Hands-on (i.e. scan shifts)
5 scan shifts/week. During the 2-week ultrasound rotation, the residents learn by scanning ED patients under the supervision of emergency ultrasound section faculty with an emphasis on bedside teaching and hands-on practice. They are expected to spend 45 hours per week scanning in the ED.
Number of hours Image Review
3-5 hours/week. Residents particpate in the weekly QA sessions during ultrasound rotation.
Number of hours didactics
Approximately 100 didactic hours over 3 years.
Other Information
We teach an intensive one day ultrasound course during new intern orientation. Regular workshops are carried out every month to train residents and faculty.
Airway Ultrasound sessions are offered twice an year.
Simulation-based ultrasound sessions are offered 4 times/year.
