Resident Education Experience

Our residents average > 500 by graduation.

Is there a dedicated US month?

Our residents have a longitudinal US curriculum interspersed throughout their 4 years of training. By then end of residency, they have had specific instruction on all US modalities as recommended by the CORD/AEUS guidelines.

The resident US education experience begins PGY-1 year with a 2 week ultrasound rotation that covers core emergency ultrasound applications. During PGY-3 year, residents complete an additional 1 week advanced ultrasound rotation based at the University of Colorado.

Is there an US elective?

Yes. Residents have the option of joining the US Track as well as pursing a dedicated US elective. In the past, residents have completed electives in:

Nerve Blocks
Advanced Echo
Ultrasound Education and Content Creation

Residents are also invited to join and participate in US Journal Clubs, which are hosted 3 times a year.

Our faculty welcome and mentor residents who are interested in pursuing a career in emergency ultrasound. Residents are given opportunities to pursue research, create educational content, and travel with our team as educators in national and regional conferences.

Number of hours didactics

At least 30 hours per resident during the course of the residency.

In addition to didactics delivered during dedicated US weeks, US education is also integrated in the general residency didactic curriculum.

Our US team provides approximately 4-5 hours of yearly lectures and hands-on session during weekly residency conference.

Other Information

100% of US studies performed by PGY-1s undergo quality assurance and feedback from US faculty.

PGY 2-4s are routinely given feedback on US studies throughout their residency training.
