Fellows will have the opportunity to learn and work at the Royal Oak campus, which is the academic hub of the Beaumont Health System. The Royal Oak ED is one of the ten busiest centers in the country with over 130,000 annual visits. The catchment area is extensive giving trainees access to a highly diverse patient population with a variety of medical ailments, high acuity of illness, and socio-economic backgrounds. At the end of 2017, a new state of the art department opened with the most up to date technologies including 14 new point-of-care ultrasound machines. All images are archived in the most advanced digital workflow solution (Qpath E) currently available. Further, ultrasound exams are integrated into PACS and the EMR for clinical decision making. In 2016 Beaumont developed a dedicated faculty emergency ultrasound training program and now more than 60% of clinical faculty routinely perform and bill for their own point-of-care exams.

Fellows will have numerous educational opportunities. The Royal Oak site is the training facility for 42 emergency medicine residents as well as the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. Fellows will participate in a longitudinal ultrasound curriculum for residents and medical students including didactic sessions and hands on workshops. Fellows will have the opportunity to train in: advanced echo including TEE, vascular access, regional anesthesia, pediatric applications, and transvaginal ultrasonography. Emergency ultrasound has a well developed research program with numerous resources available to assist in formulation and execution of any endeavor.
