Average Number of US

250 adequate (QA review) ultrasound images required over 3 years, so they tend to record 2-3 times that number to reach this goal, also expect 25 adequate scans performed for each ACEP core modality

Is there a dedicated US month?

Yes, the PGY1 residents rotate through ultrasound within the first 6 months of their residency so that they can utilize their ultrasound skills as quickly as possible.

Is there an US elective?

Yes, several PGY3 residents come back during their third year to perform more ultrasound or shore up whatever weaknesses they have.

Other Information

Every resident does a month long ultrasound rotation with our fellowship trained faculty. This involves didactics, hands-on training in our school's Center for Clinical Ultrasound Education, bedside supervised teaching in our Emergency Department, literature review sessions, independent reading and independent scanning sessions with regular image review.
