Educational Resources

The Director of the UT Health San Antonio's Ultrasound Division (Jessica Solis-McCarthy, MD) is also Ultrasound Discipline Coordinator UT Long School of Medicine. The UT Long SOM invested over $1,200,000 building a state-of-the art Center for Clinical Ultrasound Education that was designed by our Ultrasound Division Director. This Center has nine Sonosite PX's and one Sonosite X-Porte with ~46 ultrasound transducers of all varieties including pediatric, neonatal and TEE transducers. The Center has Blue Phantom, Simulab and Kyoto Kagaku ultrasound trainers for EFAST training, ultrasound-guided central venous access, thoracentesis, paracentesis, peripheral venous access, lumbar puncture, as well as transvaginal ultrasound. The center is 1,354 square feet in size and the main educational space contains 985 square feet with eight separate training stations all with wall mounted HDMI inputs and 7 with 42 inch monitors at each station. One of these stations is a “teaching station” with a touch screen control panel to control the entire lab space and all it’s monitors. Above the teaching station are four ceiling mounted cameras that can pan to any area of the teaching space and each monitor can show up to four split screen images. Activities within the Center can be transmitted to the Emergency Department lecture hall next to the lab, or transmitted off-site. The Center contains a control room with three power Mac computers. Our fellows will have access to this space for educational purposes and teaching activities. The Center for Clinical Ultrasound Education is located directly adjacent to the UTHSCSA Ultrasound Division office within the UTHSCSA Department of Emergency Medicine office space.
